The Versatility Of Don Toliver Is Showcased In His New Album ‘Love Sick’ (Review)

It has been a little over a month since Don Toliver has dropped his third studio album, ‘Love Sick’. Based on the title, the project is love, seen from Don’s perspective and his past experiences. Dropping 10 days after Valentines Day, ‘Love Sick’ brings all the emotions and stages of a relationship into one project.

Compared to other rap and hip-hop albums, Don Toliver, provides a refreshing sound. ‘Love Sick’ possess a euphoric sound mixed with melodies that will put the listener into an even deeper trance.

For instance, songs like “4 Me (Feat. Kali Uchis)” and “Luckily I’m Having (Feat. Teezo Touchdown)” both possess melodic and catchy hooks that allow you to feel every single emotion.

The echos and humming added onto the tracks puts the listener into an even deeper emotional state. Similar to the way Kid Cudi does with his music.

‘Love Sick’ showcases Don Toliver’s unique ability to spread his talents across genres. Everything from Rap to R&B is reached with a change in tempos and cadences throughout this album. The diversity in sound is what makes this project easy to listen to and digest.

While most albums today may sound like one long song, Don Toliver doesn’t even let one song sound the same for too long. “Bus Stop (Feat. Brent Faiyaz)” and “Leave The Club (Feat. Lil Durk and Glorilla)” are great examples of Don Toliver changing pace throughout the album.

Don Toliver does a great job explaining that love can be the most rewarding and most devastating feelings in the world. ‘Love Sick’ allows for every emotion put into making this project to be felt. This album was made with love, soul, and intention. Not many albums grab and keep your attention the whole ride. ‘Love Sick’ is an experience.
