Leon Thomas Proves Why He’s One of R&B’s Most Versatile Voices on New EP Pholks

Former Nickelodeon star Leon Thomas has evolved into one of the most distinctive voices and creative forces in modern R&B. As both a songwriter and a storyteller, Leon’s music is rooted in soul — reminiscent of the genre’s golden era, yet refreshingly current. His songs dive deep into themes of love, self-discovery, and fame, offering substance that often feels rare in today’s landscape.

What truly separates Leon from many of his peers is his subject matter. Rather than leaning heavily on sensuality, Leon crafts songs that reflect his current state of mind — honest, emotional, and layered with meaning.

Leon recently dropped a 7-song EP titled Pholks, another strong addition to his growing catalog. The project showcases his continued growth as an artist who refuses to be boxed in.

Pholks is a short but satisfying listen — a true “no-skip” project. The standout track, “Just How You Are,” channels the energy of an ’80s pop hit, effortlessly blending nostalgia with modern flair. “Muse” brings vibrant, slightly toxic energy, while “Trapped” stands out as a soulful, rock-inspired masterpiece. The basslines, chords, and vocal delivery make it one of Leon’s best songs to date.

Elsewhere, “Baccarat” continues the rock-infused energy (hinting that a “rockstar era” might be on the horizon), while “Feel Alive” offers a brief yet beautiful burst of soul. The closer, “Lone Wolf” featuring 4batz, ties it all together with the smooth, moody sound fans have come to expect from Leon Thomas.
