Don Toliver Raises The Intensity in “TORE UP” Visual

Don Toliver has easily grown into one of my favorite artists within mainstream hip-hop. His last album, “HARDSTONE PSYCHO” was filled with a plethora of bangers and was arguably the best full-length release of summer ‘24. Hoping to tie all loose ends and conclude that chapter of his career, he recently released a video for one of the lead singles, “TORE UP.”

It’s truly a blessing that he took this time with the visuals because the final product was definitely out of this world. Staying true to the post-apocalyptic theme, this visual transports viewers into a world of chaos. The video kicks off with a pack of bikers riding in unison through a fiery desert. If you watch this video with no context will have you thinking that you’re watching a new sequel to Mad Max.

This brings me to my next point: the world-building. The difference between music videos now and from back in the day is their strong attention to detail. This video was able to accomplish that by building off his last video, and picking up where he left off, as if you were watching a movie split into pieces. It hits differently when reoccurring faces like TisaKorean reappear to reprise their role in his posse, making this feel like a must-watch because you want to see how their stories play out.

With Don still being one of the primary faces of Cactus Jack, it makes all the sense that he puts such a big importance on a strong visual brand. Setting the bar insanely high with “HARDSTONE PSYCHO,” it will be impossible for fans to anticipate what’s next.
