On September 8th, I had the pleasure of attending a captivating show at the Bowery Ballroom, headlined by BLK ODYSSY with supporting acts Benji and Asha Imuno. The night was a wave of energy, with each artist delivering performances that kept the crowd on their feet and fully engaged.
Benji kicked things off, and although I wasn’t familiar with his music before the show, he quickly won me over. His smooth blend of soulful melodies and sharp, rhythmic flows felt fresh, and his stage presence was undeniable. From the moment he started, the audience was drawn in, vibing with his infectious energy. By the end of his set, it was clear that Benji is a rising talent with a unique sound, and I became an instant fan.
Asha Imuno followed, and though I had also only heard a little about him, his performance was a revelation. He brought his west coast live to SOHO. There was an authentic, raw energy to his set that resonated with the crowd, and like Benji, he left a strong impression. I found myself looking forward to exploring more of his music after the show.
Finally, BLK ODYSSY took the stage, and the energy in the room hit its peak. I first discovered him during the release of his album BLK Vintage, and seeing him live exceeded all expectations. His sound—a powerful blend of funk, rock, and soul—translated flawlessly on stage, and the crowd was fully immersed in every song. The connection between BLK ODYSSY had everyone dancing, singing, and feeding off the energy he brought. His performance was electrifying, a perfect showcase of his artistry and growth.
The night was a perfect blend of discovering new favorites and watching a seasoned artist continue to shine. Benji and Asha Imuno proved to be standout talents, and BLK ODYSSY reaffirmed why he’s a force to be reckoned with. This show was one of the best I had the chance of attending this year. It also gave me hope for emerging music talent.
