Don’t Sleep: Madarabeatz Talks Receiving First Gold Plaque, Producing For Pop Smoke + More
The black music scene in the United Kingdom is as diverse as it’s ever been. With what many consider to be the second coming of the grime wave currently going on and the Afrobeats presence starting to become stronger by the day, the UK has become a hotbed for new musical talent.
However one musical subgenre is dominating the UK’s underground music scence, “Drill”. In 2010 Chicago’s Drill scene exploded and it’s impact would affect not only the USA but the entire world specifically New York City and South London.
One of the best upcoming producers that was birthed during the UK’s Drill era is Madarabeatz. Having produced for upcoming UK drill artist Headie One & Dig Dat as well as the late Pop Smoke (R.I.P) Madara has quickly built an impressive portfolio. We had the chance to catch up with the 18 year old South West London producer and talk a little about his achievements, future projects, + more.
South West London native, Madarabeatz began producing about 4 years ago at the age of 15. Inspired by Hip-Hop greats 50 Cent, Drake, Lil Wayne as well as home town artists Stickz and 67, Madara fell in love with the production ofrap music early on.
“I would listen to the instrumentals more than the artist“.
Although Madarabeatz is still a relatively new producer his hard work has already paying off as he received his first gold plaque after Dig Dat’s “Daily Duppy” hit 1million views on Youtube
It felt good, I set a goal for 2019. I wanted a plaque and I got it.
Madara on Daily Duppy hitting a million views (and counting)
Madara admits to even forgetting about the beat that got him first plaque, “I forgot about the beat, I sent it to Digdat’s manager not knowing if he’ll get on it.”
Aside from Daily Duppy, MHG S1 x Most Wanted Sav’s “Next Up”, Loose’s (Moscow 17) “Light Work Freestyle”, & SJ x PS x Digga D x MizorMax x NitoNB x KK x 30 x AM “The Coldest Link Up 3.0” has all hit at least a million views on YouTube.
Madara’s impact even reached overseas to the NYC Drill scene, when he got the chances to produce for Pop Smoke.
Madara was apart of the production team along with London based group TraphouseMob who produced “Feelings” off of Pop’s debut project “Meet The Woo”.
“I did the second melody and some of the perks. Usually when yo co-produce you never know how it’s going to turn out be we got a good artist.“
The track was originally supposed to feature fellow Brooklyn artist Jay Critch but the track was leaked so the version only featuring Pop was released.
Although Madara has a built pretty impressive resume already he is not content with his current success, he plans on working with NLE Choppa, Smoove L, Lil Tjay, Fivio Foreign, Wonda Gurl & Drake one day.
With the young UK producer planning to release a drum kit soon, we can be sure to hear Madara Beatz production on Headieone’s “Frosty’s EP” dropping soon.
Shouting out fellow UK producers Czrbeats and Melo, Madara has his sights set on becoming one of the top producers in the game.
