With hip-hop currently being in a transitional period, there seems to be a lot of doubt regarding the next generation and whether they’re capable of carrying the torch. As an avid music connoisseur, I can easily assure you that the next generation is in safe hands thanks to some fresh talent like Hurricane Wisdom & Raq Baby. This unlikely duo recently teamed up for “On God,” showing that there’s a lot to be excited about what the future has in store in the trap scene.
Artists from Southern states usually possess an unmatched chemistry and this song is one of the best examples of this theory. As soon as I peeped the sample from Beanie Siegel’s classic “Feel It In The Air,” I instantly knew that this song would be a banger off the strength of just pure nostalgia. It’s not an everyday occurrence to see new artists modernize an old-school beat with some new flavor that feels like it can stand on its own.
It feels like we are witnessing the early days of Hurricane Wisdom’s prime because he can’t seem to miss it right now. Far from a one-hit-wonder, he’s getting creative to not keep his sound from ever sounding stagnant while not getting overly experimental. One can hope that he will continue to elevate his sound and show that Florida artists can be versatile contrary to popular belief.
