MILLION DOLLAR BABY (VHS) by Virginia’s Tommy Richman is taking the world by storm. Once the teaser dropped on Instagram it’s like we were instantly hooked. Million Dollar Baby is already in the DJ set rotations, the ladies are already on the floor with it & the fellas are already riding around with it. It’s not even officially summer yet but we haven’t seen this kind of viral breakout since 4BATZ’s “act ii: date @ 8”.
We were just introduced to Tommy last year through “Upset” on Brent Faiyaz’s Larger Than Life album. Side note: since achieving mainstream status, I commemorate Brent for consistently giving DMV placements on his tapes. But if you were to dial back and check out Tommy’s discography, he’s already got some early hits on his THE RUSH – EP. LAST NITE is the leading track on the tape.
MESSY sounds like a perfect interpolation of Lil Wayne and Bobby V’s “Mrs. Officer”. GLOCK 25 gives 90s sleeper R&B heat. If this is how Tommy is coming top of the year, I can’t wait to see the rest of his 2024.
