Diamond KUT Media Atlanta Interview Series: ARZLEE

Let me introduce to an artist who is bringing back the real essence of the sounds we know as “quiet storm” with his angelic voice. His music speaks emotion, and once you hear him you won’t forget him. Let me introduce you to, ARZLEE.

Arzlee spent his summers n Fayetteville, NC with his grandmother who is a singer. “My grandmother always encouraged me to pursue it (music) because she knows that I’ve just always loved music. Growing up, I would listen to Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, Janet & Michael Jackson, and Brandy. I started writing my own songs when I was 13 and kept working on it while I was growing up. Once I finished high school and it was time for college, I knew I had to come to Atlanta to make music happen in some way. From there, it blossomed over time.”

Arzlee’s music is a mix of everything you’ve grown to love about R&B music. His music is a sound that you can’t wait to turn on when driving, cooking, getting ready, or cleaning the house.

I make R&B that’s inspired by the past and honors the genre’s traditions while finding space to push it forward and create something fresh for today. When you’re down and need something to boost you or when you’re needing to see how far you’ve come, just turn on some ARZLEE.

Arzlee’s biggest feat as an artist to date actually came from his 2023 EP release “Segments”. He gave me a quick spill on putting the project together.

Segments came along during the process of creating my impending debut album. I’ve been working on it for about two years and I just wanted to drop this as a taste of what’s to come. This project is almost like a memoir of the last 4-5 years of my life. “Leave It All Behind” is my favorite track because it took the most effort to put it together. I rewrote that song over and over and would hit walls and come back to it for a long time because it’s about such a dark time in my life.  I’m proud that I was able to conquer that and make something beautiful out of it. The full journey of that time will be encapsulated on the album that’s set to drop in 2024. ‘Segments’ hold some important parts of that story for now.

Despite people’s critiques about modern R&B, ARZLEE feels as if it is in such a beautiful place right now.

It feels like we are entering or in the midst of one of those special periods of music that go down in history and I’m just thankful and excited to be a part of it. I hold my own in that I offer a vocal experience on the record and on the stage. I respect what it means to really perform and connect with an audience. I have been a student of music and the business my entire life and I’ve worked hard to develop my artistry over the last decade to where I’m ready to finally pop out and have some fun!

When asked if he had any last remarks, ARZLEE left us with this:

“2024 is gonna be a great time! 2023 was about me getting my bearings and falling in love with performing again. I laid a lot of groundwork this year to come even more focused and ready for 2024. I spent time even writing with some of my peers for their upcoming releases so I’m super excited for that. This year is more music, more shows, more ARZLEE. I’m very excited for what the future holds and if anyone’s even the slightest bit curious, you should come on the journey with me.”
