Born in Broward County, Florida and raised in South Atlanta, Nicodagoat has always been good for creating a sound that is a reflection of his perspectives. Always finding a way to resonate with l listeners.
Nico’s rap aspirations came to him pretty early on. In middle school, he started a rap group with his friends called Blackout.
We used to have a book of rhymes we would pass around which I still have. I never knew if I would take it to a professional level but as I grew so did my love for writing and making music so here we are.
And that little notebook of raps has taken Nico lots of places landing him on big stages.
If Nico was to describe his music, he would say, therapeutic. When asked why it’s therapeutic, Nico says
The whole reason I fell in love with music was because it helped me feel like I wasn’t alone in the situations I was going through. I know how much my music has helped me so I like to try to relay that feeling to my listeners. However, all of my music is not that serious. Some songs I just make for fun.
When it comes to who inspires Nico musically, he looks towards some of the bigger names in rap. J. Cole for his storytelling capabilities and delivering underlying messages through his lyrics. Drake for his rhythmic and emotional vulnerability. Smino for how he brings out a more fun and fresh sound in his music and Kanye for his creative production madness.
Nico’s 2023 signature single “Let Me Down” seems to be a “right on time” track for the mainstream music transition. Nico considers “Let Me Down” one of Nicos fun tracks but it’s still a song about having someone you have high hopes for romantically and just hoping they don’t let you down from that pedestal you have them on.
“A long time ago, I had talked to myself about doing a house project. Then Drake dropped his experimental house tape Honestly Nevermind so I was a little discouraged for a second. Since then, I still want to revisit the idea but I definitely wanted to indulge in the genre my own way. I heard the beat while looking for beats for the next project. I heard the beat for this one and was immediately like ‘Oh yeah’.”

His recent release “Frontin” featuring rising ATL songstress Destiny Briona is one of his more somber but romantically reflective tracks. When asked what inspired this track, he details that the inspiration started out from a romantic situation that one of his personal friends was going through.
“It was something he was going through; something I’ve gone through and I’m sure a lot of people probably go through this as well. It hurts when someone you love starts acting as if they don’t know how much you love them. Just like the song says, ‘don’t act like you don’t know what you mean to me.”
When asked his opinion of musical experimentation and originality, he shares:
I believe everyone should experiment with their sound and find what fits them. Gotta find the balance between making what you want to make and making “hits” or “what the people wanna hear.
Nico feels like a lot of music today is made with the thought of getting rich or getting signed. Nicos sound is him having the ability to get things off of his chest that he would probably never have said without the music.
“In terms of originality, I feel like every type of music has been made so you’ll probably “sound like someone”. However, there is skill in being able to put your own twist and feel on it. It can really make you stand out more than just making a song that’s hard enough to be played in the club.” – Nico.

For 2024, Nico tells listeners to be prepared for the third installment of his “Slow Jamz” tape series.
“I really wanted to drop a project this year but life happened. Next year I’m definitely dropping what I’ve been working on. I feel like once the flood gates open, you’re gonna be hearing a lot of Nico.”
Second, Nico hints that he’s been working with Atlanta’s Imperium Worldwide and that they should have a collaboration dropping next year as well.
When asked his last thoughts, he shares:
As long as you are loving what you do, believing in yourself and taking the time to put the work in, eventually you’ll get where you always wanted to go. That’s what I’m telling myself now so I don’t rush what I’m destined for! In the meantime, 2024 here we come!
