13 Y/O Award-Winning Screen Extraordinaire Maya Hooks Releases Short Film, “Black Girl VS. Ambiguous”

Maya Hooks, a young and ambitious screenwriter, producer, and actress has graced the screen again on a short film that caters to the girls that look like her. Hands on, Maya wrote and produced this film alongside her mentor Seven Okema Gunn, further sprinkling her black girl magic on and off screen.

Originally from Chicago, the capital of Love, Hooks has been creating content since she was in the 4th grade. With influential actresses such as triple crown award winner Viola Davis who is the first black woman to snag an Academy, Emmy, and 2 Tony awards, there’s no surprise that the talented multi hyphenate creator is continuously pushing the limit.

Currently in the 8th grade, this multifaceted creator is juggling school, acting classes, auditions, and studying film making & screenwriting at the Bronx College in New York. Her profile continues to ascend while she breaks barriers and opens doors for young girls with big dreams as she’s been the captain of her own ship, sailing towards the big screens.

Short film “Black Girl VS Ambiguous will be released at various Film Festivals beginning this October. This film focuses on a young, black, skilled actress who learns the unfortunate reality of what all the entertainment world offers to girls who look like her. With this newfound knowledge, the strength to overcome, and talent to do such, she challenges the system to change the narrative when it comes to black girls in theatre.
