California-based artist, iyana feels like one of the few artists who are restoring my hope in new artists. Born into a musical family and influenced by artists like Erykah Badu and Rayvn Lenae, iyana has built a unique sound that is inspired by a blend of genres. Her newly released single, “Beg For Your Love” reaffirms my belief that this genre-bending talent is in a league of her own.
Produced by frequent collaborator, Donny Darkpop, iyana is able to pair up with someone who she has unmatched chemistry with. Familiarity & comfortability are two of the most important factors when it comes to collaboration, and probably the biggest reasons this song feels so cohesive and balanced.
These days, most artist-producer duos are incapable of making an album’s worth of music, due to not creatively being on the same page. But because of their inherent chemistry together and Darkpop’s extensive range as a producer, I can’t even fathom a world where anything they make sounds stale or doesn’t push the envelope.
