I wouldn’t mind seeing someone like Daylan Gideon blow up this year. This Atlanta-based artist has been making a name for himself for the way he always pulls through with introspective bars over soulful production. Truly in a lane of his own, he makes it impossible to be compared to anyone else.
Earlier this year, Daylan dropped off his single, “Move Mountains.” Unbeknownst to me, this would be the start of a rollout for his newly-released project, “The Book of Gideon.” This 8-track project attempts to tell Dylan’s full story in a span of 16 minutes, not skipping any hardships that help mold him.
Produced entirely by Israeli producer, Argov, I’m starting to see the difference when an artist allows one producer to work their magic. Chemistry is literally everything in music, and having someone that you can build an original sound with is an undefeated feeling. For this project, it felt like this duo created a sound that pays homage to the raw energy of earlier hip-hop, while still keeping it fresh.
It’s so out of the ordinary to see people still make music like this, and for that reason, I’m glad “The Book of Gideon” exists. I’m so used to listening to projects that feel rushed, but that’s not the case here.
