Nicki Minaj Launches Her Own Record Label!
The Red Ruby made the announcement of her record label during her Queen Radio show on Friday, March 3.
The news comes with the release of her latest single, “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” which she teased on Instagram prior to dropping it on Friday.
“There’s a big announcement coming…Well, I have a record label now,” Nicki announced, keeping the label name a secret for right now. “I believe so strongly in loyalty, and because I’ve spend my whole life giving to others that turn around and sh*t on me.”
Nicki announced that her longtime friend Patty Lauren known as Patty Duke, will work alongside her as the A&R at the label. The roster so far includes London Hill, Nana Fofie, Rico Danna, and Tate Kobang.
“Don’t think my label is just rap, or Black, or anything,” she said. “We got some other genres of music.”
Nicki boasted about her freshly signed artist, Tate Kobang. “Tate is one of the very best hook writers of the new generation,” Kobang actually helped Minaj write her new single “Red Ruby Da Sleeze”.
“I almost didn’t want to tell people that, you know, I was affiliated with him because I don’t want that to affect his business. But he’s an artist, and that’s him on that hook. He wrote that hook.”
As the “Anaconda” rapper further talked about her new label, she spoke on how rap star Lil Wayne had an impact on her starting her career.
“When I came in this game, I didn’t have no paperwork with Lil Wayne. But he had us on tour, he had us in a studio, he was getting on my mixtapes.”
“There’s no real person that believes in them. That’s like, ‘nah, I’m gonna make it my business to see you shine’. That’s why I never wanted to do a label before because I said to myself …unless I’m ready to really put these artists on I’m not gonna ruin anyone’s life,” Minaj further explained when speaking on Wayne’s influence.
Congratulations to Nicki Minaj on her new label!
