Skyzoo releases new album ‘All The Brilliant Things’

After three years of conceptualizing, writing, building, imagining, and recording, Gregory Skyler Taylor, known as Skyzoo, released his tenth album on June 11.

Hailing from Brooklyn, Skyzoo’s career has been defined by groundbreaking perspective and elite lyricism. In Skyzoo’s own words, his music has always been a “combination of storytelling, motive, and reflection.”

‘All The Brilliant Things’ album cover depicts a child and father figure standing in front of a construction site for a skyrise building at the intersection of Fulton Street and Franklin Avenue located in Brooklyn, NY.

All The Brilliant Things tells the story of Skyzoo’s neighborhood, how it’s changed and how the culture has been affected through gentrification and cultural appropriation.

With All The Brilliant Things, the idea was to truly try and tackle the realities of gentrification and this new era of cultural appropriation, commonly known as ‘culture vulturing,’ Skyzoo said. “The way they intertwine with one another, parallel at times, and how we as the residents of our long-standing homes and creatures of these cultures have been stripped of it, or at times let it happen, and even in some cases sadly helped it happen, all for what we assumed was our best interest,” Skyzoo said.

Track 12 on the album, titled ‘Bed-Stuy is Burning’ begins with a sample from Biggie Smalls and Tupac’s live freestyle ‘Where Brooklyn At,’ attributing other major artists in history who have called Brooklyn ‘home.’

“I tell stories that speak on the motives of those I grew up with and why they’re such, and then reflect on how those things impacted us all, both my inner circle and subconsciously, the listener,” Skyzoo said.

The album is an emotional look into the realities of humanity in a world changed by outsides forces. “The irony of it all is, despite how it all makes us feel in hindsight, one would have to admit that the orchestration of it was truly brilliant. Brutal, and heinous, but somehow pretty brilliant. Hence the title of the album,” Skyzoo said.

‘All The Brilliant Things’ is available for purchase and streaming on all platforms including Apple Music and Spotify. The album consists of 14 tracks featuring artists Aaria, BJ the Chicago Kid, Raheem DeVaughn, and more.
