RetcH and V Don Drop Moody New Single “Sound Like,”

New Jersey rapper RetcH and producer V Don dropped “Sound Like,” the second single from their upcoming collab album, “Gone ‘Til Autumn.” The track follows “Shiesty,” a cold trap banger featuring Houston rapper Maxo Kream that released this May. ‘Sound Like,” differs from “Shiesty” in tone and style. The former song is a quick look into RetcH’s lyrical state at the time he wrote it (he has since been incarcerated). The track is gangster rap to the fullest. RetcH is clearly cut from the same cloth that produces rappers like ScHoolboy Q. At certain points in the song, it sounds like RetcH is rhyming through gritted teeth. He spits packed verses about his upbringing and the harshness of that environment. The skeletal violin instrumental fits the motif, but it could stand to benefit from having more effects.
“The beat sounds like a sinister movie score, and [RetcH] came with the perfect energy for it,” said V Don.
The whole song feels like a transitional moment. It’s a strong single that would likely sound better in the context of a full project.
